Calderdale and Kirklees Manufacturing Alliance members were given an insight into the global market when they visited the Crosslee factory at Hipperholme.
David Boyle, managing director of the leading manufacturer of tumble driers under the brand name ‘White Knight’, explained that Saudi Arabia is one of its fastest growing markets as the culture does not allow the display of personal washing in public.
And also because the dry, dusty conditions discourage people from hanging out washing.
Products from the Crosslee factory are exported to more than 80 countries.
More than 30 members of the alliance heard how the business has survived difficult economic times and grown to be a world player through rigorous quality testing and speed of turnaround.
The staff are able to work at such speed that even robots would not complete the task faster and it is this speed which gives the company its competitive edge.
Jeff Monks, of Harold Fisher (Plastics) Ltd, who organised the visit, said: “We could see this is a tough and competitive market and that Crosslee have to do all they can to control material costs and to gain every efficiency possible within the factory.”
Crosslee plc is established as Europe’s largest independent tumble dryer manufacturer, producing more than 600,000 units per year and sold throughout 75 countries across the globe.
