Art lovers urged to join circle

Clubs and societies

The all-ability club organises demonstrations, workshops, life modelling, costume models and exhibitions in the local area. They meet every Thursday evening at the Waring Green Community Centre at 7:30pm. The club is ideal for those who enjoy painting at home, who would like to return to the hobby or who want to learn to paint for the first time. The members are a friendly group and each newcomer can attend a free taster session with materials provided.

Recently, the circle hosted a popular demonstration by local artist Paul Talbot-Greaves, who entertained members by painting a nearby landscape in acrylic while giving a talk about his methods and techniques. The next event, on Thursday August 13, will be a demonstration of pastels with David Newbould, and on August 20 the session will focus on ‘pictures of the night’ - the theme of the competition to be judged at the annual open evening on September 3.

The club has recently celebrated its 67th annual art exhibition, in which the public is invited to view work displayed at the Smith Art Gallery. They are now busy preparing for the open evening, which will include further displays and exhibits, stalls, a tombola and supper.

If you’re looking for a new hobby with a warm welcome, just turn up at the next meeting or contact Geoff on 01484 712947 for more information.
