PUPILS climbed upon a new life education bus as they went on a journey around the human body.
Children at St Andrew’s Infant School, Brighouse, enjoyed a taster session in the Life Education Classroom where classes learnt about different aspects of the human body and way of life.
Reception class learnt about the parts of the body while Year Two looked in more detail about the body and were shown the different roles the organs play in everyday life.
Year Two teacher Mrs Hainsworth said the learning bus added another element to the pupils’ PSHE studies.
“It’s great to have the learning bus as it is something different for the children,” she said.
“It gets them out of the classroom and interacting in a different way. All of them have really enjoyed their time.”
Students from St Andrew’s Junior School also entered the classroom to see the affect of legal and illegal drugs.
Educator Maria Burton, with the help of Harold the Giraffe, said the idea is to help promote healthy lifestyle and educate the youngsters. “The slogan of Life Education is “Helping Children make healthy choices”. To quote James Beattie “The aim of education is to teach children how to think rather than what to think, so as to enable them to think for themselves.”.
“This very much describes the approach of Life Education which aims to make children aware of issues around a healthy lifestyle including obesity, and legal and illegal drugs.”
The Life Education Bradford scheme has been benefitting the children of Bradford for more than 20 years and schools in the area have been organising yearly visits
The programme is now being brought out to the surrounding areas.
