BRIGHOUSE has been identified as one of two prime sites in the north for an ambitious sports scheme which could put the town on the national cycling map and bring in millions of pounds of investment.
British Cycling is looking seriously at Brighouse as one of the preferred locations for a velodrome for track racing and training.
The scheme is seen as part of British Cycling’s long-term plan to create a legacy for the sport beyond the 2012 Olympics. The organisation has been in talks with Calderdale Council, Younger Homes and United Brighouse with a view to bringing the project to Brookfoot.
If successful the development could form a major attraction at the centre of a new Yorkshire Velopark and could also lead to other sports such as canoeing, football and athletics becoming involved on the site.
