Calderdale Council’s Sports Service is celebrating after reaching a record high of more than 10,000 members.
Figures released by the council earlier this month show that a third of the members use Brighouse Pool and Fitness Centre.
Coun Marcus Thompson, Calderdale Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “Since opening in 2010 the number of members exercising at Brighouse Pool and Fitness Centre has kept increasing, and now over 3,300 members keep fit at this wonderful local facility
“The centre has been a great success, but one of the biggest incentives for people signing up is that their membership covers all five Calderdale Council sites across the borough.
“Whether you choose to visit Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax Pool, North Bridge Leisure Centre or Todmorden Sports Centre, you can be sure that you’ll receive great support and enjoy our fantastic facilities for every type of workout.
“I’m really pleased, but not surprised that the service has achieved these incredible membership figures.”
The figures cap a memorable 12 months of sport in Calderdale, which has seen the borough host the Tour de France and Rugby League World Cup.
