The last meeting of Lightcliffe and District Local History Society’s 17th season will take place on Wednesday March 12.

Philip and Lynn Hickin will be investigating the birthplaces, occupations and lifestyles of Hipperholme and Lightcliffe residents of around 1900 and promises to give an interesting insight into the lives of those everyday folk who didn’t make the headlines.

The society’s meetings take place in Lightcliffe CE Primary School on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm. Non-members are always welcome, £2 per meeting.

The January meeting featured an entertaining and informative talk by Tom Roper on the subject of Dr Henry Power FRS, a local man who was one of the first two elected fellows of the Royal Society.

The Society’s annual meeting and local history quiz will be held at the school on Wednesday March 19 at 7.30pm, and its 18th season will commence on September 24.

The society is keen to welcome new members - the subscription for a season of five talks is just £6.
