In the 1700s, Dawson Weir House was the Coach and Horses Inn. Its impressive frontage, however, is Georgian, and inside, its period home style has been restored with great care.

It’s a large family home, but today could also function as a holiday let or B&B.

‘Honest’ John Fielden, an MP whose small spinning factory across the road grew to become the renowned ‘Waterside Mill’, first lived in the house with his family.

It was later used for offices and as an offshoot of the mill. A crane was even stationed in the attic at one time to bring goods in from the canal.

An arched portico and surround leads to the grand front entrance. Inside is an original glass panelled door with stained glass and leaded inserts.
