Landlady of 12 months at The Whitehall, Hipperholme, Michelle Poutch has entertainment lined up this weekend starting tomorrow (Friday) night.
Selah Sound, a reggae band, will be playing classic reggae from Bob Marley, UB40 and many more.
On Sunday there will be a pool competition from 3pm with a £100 prize for the winner.
One for your diary is Sunday, March 1, when there is an acoustic session with Chaz, playing the likes of Aerosmith, Pink Floyd and much more.
Originally from Bradford, Michelle came to the pub from her native Bradford with daughter Emma, who is now aged nine.
Leaving the Bowling Hotel, which she had run for three years, Michelle said: “We have both settled in well; Emma enjoys school and has made lots of friends. I wanted a change of area and a new challenge and we found it.”
Having been shut, and then open “on and off” since previous landlady Margaret Womersley had departed the property with husband Paul and family, the once popular pub needed some stability for its regulars.
“When I took the pub over, the owners had it all ready to go for me and since then I have worked hard to build the pub back up.
“I like to have a good mix of entertainment for my customers and I think that is why they keep coming back,” Michelle said.
Introducing regular live music and DJ’s, as well as having sports channels for the customers to watch all the top action, The Whitehall is open Monday to Thursday, 3pm until close, and Friday to Sunday, noon until close.
l La Cachette restaurant in Elland has been recognised as one of the top eateries in Calderdale by the prestigious Harden’s restaurant guide after achieving a four star rating in its UK Restaurant Survey for 2015.
The French restaurant, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, achieved a four star rating for its food, service and ambience. Compliments were also given for the restaurant’s “excellent food and great value wines” in the guide.
Glenn Futter, head chef at La Cachette, said: “I’m thrilled that we have been recognised by Harden’s for our high quality food and service, along with an atmospheric dining experience. As the roughly translated meaning of our name suggests, we really are the hidden gem of the Calderdale restaurant scene – and this rating confirms that.”
