Good Times: Customers sign up for buskers

l A surprise race night, organised by Trevor Greenwood, helped get Christmas off to a flying start at the Commercial and Railway Inn in Rastrick.

The event featured wind-up Brussels sprouts, Santas, Christmas puds and reindeer.

“It was a great laugh and people were really surprised. We raised £170 for charity as well,” said Trevor.

Customers at the pub have been backing a campaign by buskers who held a meeting to discuss plans to charge them for licences.

“There were about eight buskers and street performers. They did a little spot and then asked people in the pub to sign a petition to stop councils charging them to busk and perform,” said Trevor.

Tonight it is quiz night with an acoustic jam session on Friday evening, piano-playing on Saturday and 60s disco on Sunday afternoon.

l Mick Brown from the Pyschoslinkies provides the music at the Barge, Brighouse, tonight. On Friday the three-piece rock band The Hungry Hearts will entertainand on Saturday Northern Rokk provide the sounds.

l The Casa at Brookfoot is taking bookings for Valentine’s Day. A pink bubbly reception, three-course meal and live music is on offer at £84.95 per couple with the option to stay overnight.

l Milry’s at Owler Ings Road, Brighouse, is also getting in a romantic mood with limited spaces available for a three-course Valentine’s Day meal at £24.50 per head and the chance to win a bottle of Champagne.
