l At the Barge tonight (Thursday) they have the Jam Session with Mick from the Psychoslinkys.

On Friday it’s Rock Solid and then on Saturday The Savages will take to the stage. On Sunday there will be music from Rex Alexander and the Caravelles.

l You may have noticed that Brighouse has lost another town centre pub in the form of The Black Swan on Briggate.

Rokt Climbing has taken the building on and has begun gutting it and knocking it into shape for what, I am hearing, will be their licensed social club.

I hope to bring you more on their plans next week!

l After 11 months, The Clough House at the top of Rastrick said goodbye to Cath Kenyon and partner Les Saunders last weekend.

The couple prided themselves on the quality home cooked food and good beer they were serving, and told me, face-to-face, they could not keep trading under Enterprise Inns.

“A pub nearby under Enterprise has re-opened and they have been receiving massive discounts on their barrels and we cannot compete on those prices,” said Cath.

“The drinking customers have gone where it’s a cheaper pint and therefore we have had a massive dip in takings on the drinking side despite our food being rated highly and doing fantastically.

“We are leaving this pub in immaculate condition as the new managers come in this week to re-open and we do not owe any money, so we have done all we can,” added Cath, who hopes to keep in the trade locally when she and Les have had a break.
