There’s a treat in store for football fans at the Holiday Inn, Clifton, this month when football legend Paul Merson (right) is guest speaker.

The former Arsenal and England football, whose career in the game lasted from 1985 to 2006, will be special guest at An Evening with Paul Merson on Friday, January 31 which starts with a drinks reception from 7pm.

The evening will also include a slot from comedian Paul Emmett, much in demand on the after-dinner circuit and one of the top MCs working in the region.

Paul Merson played in the Premier League for Arsenal, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa, as well as in the Football League for Brentford and Portsmouth.

He also played for Walsall, where he spent two years as player-manager before finishing his career in non-league football with Tamworth.

He briefly came out of retirement in 2012 for Welshpool Town where he played in a one-off game for charity.

In his international career, he won 21 caps for England, scoring three times. He is now a television pundit with Sky Sports on the popular Gillette Soccer Special on Sunday afternoons.

Paul Emmett, who heads up Halifax RL Club’s commercial department, has been working recently at the Palace Court Hotel on the Isle of Man.

Tickets for the dinner, which includes a silent auction and raffle, cost £29.95 per head. Tel: 01484 404582.
