More than 90 past students enjoyed a meal and the chance to catch up with old friends at a dinner at the Auctioneer restaurant in Brighouse.

The nostalgic reunion is organised by Julia Wilby and Julie Tolley and is held every March, as close as possible to the date of the school’s Founders’Day.

Brighouse Girls’ Grammar School, formerly the Secondary School for Girls, opened in 1944. It used to occupy the building in Halifax Road which is now Brighouse High school’s sixth form centre.

In 1985, under secondary school reorganisation in Calderdale, it became Brighouse High School.

“Some of us don’t see each other from year to year but we do make a point of meeting up for the reunion. People really look forward to it.

“Some of the guests who now come along are in their 70s and 80s and it’s a great opportunity to get together and remember our school days. It may be looking back with rosy spectacles but we all have fond memories of our time at Brighouse Girls.”

Julia made copies of old photographers and Founders’ Day booklets for guests to look at and the school song was sung.
