The final production of Actors’ Workshop’s 2015/16 season is Mike Ward’s adaptation of Budd Schulberg’s 1954 Oscar winning film On the Waterfront.
It’s really a version of a true story – the illegal control exercised by the Mafia of much of the commercial activity, in and out of the New York waterfront during the late Forties and early Fifties.
Its young hero, Terry Malloy - Marlon Brando in the movie -has had little formal education but shows a natural ability as a boxer.
After a promising start, his professional career is brought to a sudden end by the machinations of the mob, and the illegal gambling which is skewered to support Terry’s opponent. This requires Terry to ‘take a fall’ and be ‘counted out’ at a specific point during his fights.
The show runs from July 19-23. Tickets can be bought from 01422 323688.
