Folk rebels Mawkin will be providing the exciting sounds at the next Ryburn 3 Step barn dance at Waring Green Community Centre, Brighouse, on Saturday, March 15.
Founded in 2002 by brothers Jamie and David Delarre, Mawkin are a five-piece outfit fusing folk, world music, jazz and rock into an inventive package. Starting out as a ‘bunch of mates’ who enjoyed making music together, they made their debut at Dartmoor Festival in 2002 and were soon being booked for festivals and venues across the country - even though most band members weren’t old enough to drive!
Together with the Delarre brothers, Mawkin are bassist Danny Crump, melodeon player Nick Cooke and drummer Lee Richardson.
Mawkin have picked up three BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations and are now on the road playing songs from their forthcoming album. They have collaborated with Eliza Carthy, Steve Knightley of Show of Hands and Jim Causley. The band with Phil Bassingdale will take to the stage at Waring Green Community Centre at 8pm. Tickets are £9/£8. Contact 01422 349422.
