Showcasing the stars

It will be lights, camera, action tonight as Brighouse Cinema at the Civic Hall returns after the summer break.

The film being featured tonight at 7.30pm will be Belle.

The British film is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her status prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing.

Amma Asante’s powerful, moving and gently subversive romantic melodrama is a finely wrought tale of a woman out of time. The result is an engaging drama that smartly examines issues of race, class and gender.

Tickets are available online at Brighouse cinema or can be booked in person at Ryecorn Wholefoods, Bethel Street; Harrison Lord, Bradford Road; or Simply Flowers, Commercial Street.
