A memorial trophy has been created in honour of an inspirational dance school principal who taught hundreds of young people.
Pamela Gibson, who set up her own school in 1972, died in January but thanks to a collection of parents at the dance school a trophy will be presented on an annual basis at the Spen Valley Dance Festival held each February and organised by the Gibson School of Theatre Dance.
The trophy can be presented to any of the competitors at the close of the competition by the adjudicator. It will be their personal choice to who they consider to have given 110 per cent to their dances throughout the competition, even if they were not placed in the medals or have won a trophy for the highest marks in their section.
This year it was presented to Victoria Taylor, 17, from Clifton. She has been dancing since the age of five and studies ballet, tap, modern jazz, theatre craft and free-style disco. She is also a student teacher working towards her teaching associate exam. Victoria is a member of Brighouse Theatre Productions and has performed in their shows and pantomimes since the age of seven.
