One of Brighouse artist Peter Brook’s earliest works has been unearthed and restored to its former glory.

Having been in the possession of Ryburn Valley High School for over 20 years, retiring teacher of art Richard Booth decided to contact Peter’s widow, Molly Brook, about restoring the painting of Chapel Street in Sowerby Bridge.

“I spoke about the painting and my idea was to restore it to its former glory and she kindly gave me the name of his agent in Huddersfield.”

Working with Mike Baggs, of the AC Gallery, the painting was taken away for a year of professional cleaning and restoration. The painting is now proudly displayed in Dean Clough Mills in Halifax.

Prints are available to buy and money raised helps fund the ongoing display of work by students in Calderdale Royal Hospital.
