Folk's finest join up for charity gig

Following sell-out shows back in February, the critically acclaimed collaboration between two of contemporary folk's finest artists continues with a handful of select shows.

Singer-songwriter Ryley Walker plays guitar like Bert Jansch and sings like Tim Buckley - yet he has a musical style that’s all his own.

Still only his mid-twenties, he is well on his way to becoming a major artist and has received rave reviews for his latest album ‘Primrose Green’.

Born in Rockford, Illinois, he started his career on the independent music scene in Chicago.

In 2015 he released an instrumental album, ‘Land of Plenty’, recorded in collaboration with fellow Chicago musician Bill MacKay.

At the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge, on Tuesday, August 2, he is joined by legendary double-bassist Danny Thompson, who performed with Bert Jansch in Pentangle and Tim Buckley, as well as Nick Drake, John Martyn and many more, helping to create the lyrical and jazz-flecked astral folk that so influenced Ryley Walker more than 40 years later.

The show will include new material from the album ‘Golden Sings That Have Been Sung’ which is due out in August.

Support will come from Brighton-based singer songwriter Holly Macve, whose lyrical songs and haunting voice brought her to the attention of John Grant.

Recently signed to Bella Union, she is currently writing and recording her debut album with Lantern On the Lakes’ Paul Gregory.
