Youngsters are filmed for a TV advertisement for Halifax children's museum Eureka

Twenty-five local children have become TV stars for the summer - thanks to Eureka.

They are doing their bit over the school break to put Calderdale on the tourist map by taking part in a national TV advert for the National Children’s Museum based in Halifax.

The 30 second advertisement shows the youngsters playing, experimenting, laughing and having fun at the award winning interactive educational museum, which opened in 1992 and is aimed at children from birth to 11.

The museum attracts around 275,000 visitors a year from all over the UK, with the vast majority from the north of England.

Marketing manager Anita O’Donovan said the aim of the advert was to show those who didn’t know what a children’s museum was, what was on offer, and hopefully encourage them to visit.

The advert has been shown on ITV and Channel 5 throughout July and features nine children from Halifax’s award winning song and dance academy, babyballet, which is based near Eureka.

Academy founder Claire O’Connor said she was thrilled when Eureka approached her, and the youngsters from her school had really enjoyed the experience.

They include her own three youngest children, Charlie, aged 10, Claudia, seven and Kitty, six, along with Hannah Greenwood, eight, Heidi Greenwood, five, Ellie Whytle, seven, George Whytle, six, Lena Osuji, eight, and Zoe Osuji, six. “Eureka is a fantastic place to visit for families and a great advert for Calderdale too . I really hope this advert hits the spot and attracts more people to both the museum and the town,” said Claire.

The museum, which is ran as a educational charity, inspires children to learn about themselves and the world. It has lots of attractions on throughout the school holidays.
