Their sport is fun and fund-raising too

WHEN Rastrick Gentlemens Spoofers was set up last season, apart from friends getting together to enjoy playing cricket, the aim was to raise money for charity along the way.

Last season they raised £2,000 for West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust and this season are hoping to get closer to the £3,000 mark.

“We decided on West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust as they are building a new facility by Asda and we wanted to do something to help out,” said Mark Edley.

“Last year we did well but we want to do even better this year and coming up this month we have a couple of events that we would like as many people as possible to get behind,” he said.

On Sunday there is a charity cricket match against Rastrick Right Armers and it promises to be a family day out with all the razzmatazz of a Twenty/20 county game with the players coming out to music.

There will be a barbecue, ice creams, drinks, bouncy castle and a raffle with a first prize of a week in an apartment in Spain as well as several other prizes given by local businesses.

It is a busy week for Spoofers, who are currently in the top half of the Huddersfield Twenty/20 Evening League, as on August 20 they will hold a golf day at Castlefields Golf Club.

There will be six groups of five teams, who have paid £25 each to play and food is included.

“We are looking for sponsorship and donations and also invite all the friends and families of the players to join us at the club in the evening for a barbecue and fun,” said Mark.

The partners of players have volunteered to help run the event.

Anyone wishing to donate or sponsor any of the events, or advertise around any of the grounds should contact Mark Edley on 07825287638.
