STUDENTS at Rastrick High School have been victorious in an Aussie Rules tournament.

The school in Field Top Road competed against Whitcliffe Mount School, Cleckheaton, and Brownhills School from Walsall in a triangular Australian Rules Football tournament held at Whitcliffe Mount.

Representatives of the Huddersfield Rams and Wolverhampton Wolverines organised the tournament to provide an opportunity for young sportsmen to experience a new sport and spread the awareness of Aussie Rules.

Rastrick High School has supplemented these experiences with Aussie Rules being part of the school’s annual Cultural Diversity Day, where Huddersfield Rams coaches introduce students to Australian lifestyle, geography and national identity

The best and fairest award was won by Rastrick students Allen Carr and Alex Overton, who were declared fine exponents of the game’s key athletic elements of catching, kicking and tackling as well as illustrating the vital Aussie Rules skills of teamwork, co-operation and decision making.

The Huddersfield Rams continue to spread the Aussie Rules message when they take on Wolverhampton Wolverines this Saturday at Lockwood Park.
