BRIGHOUSE Town’s preparations for their second season in the Koolpsort NCEL Premier Division begin with training on Saturday afternoon at the Dual Seal Stadium.

New manager Mick Couzens, his assistant Barry Thomas and coach Mark Booth met vice chairman Ray McLaughlin and match day football secretary Wally Hemingway on Monday for three hours to plan everything and also look ahead to five pre-season friendlies and an inhouse game on July 16.

They also discussed players, fund-raising ideas, tracksuits and touched on several other subjects.

Town’s pre-season friendly with Bradford Park Avenue has been confirmed and will be played on Saturday, July 30 (3pm).

Couzens said: “I am very grateful to Kev Hainsworth, the Park Avenue director for arranging this match.

“I spent five seasons at Park Avenue as the Reserve and U19 manager so it will be good to see the many fans and officials of the club.”

Couzens and Thomas attended the Lancashire League AGM last week at Leyland, the Lancashire County FA headquarters.

“Although we will no longer be involved in the league after six years, it was nice to say hello and goodbye to the many friends we have made, and both Barry and myself were presented with the Lancashire League East Division League Championship trophy that Bradford PA Reserves won last season.

“Following on from Saturday’s session we will be in for training next Tuesday and Thursday and over 40 players have text back to say they will be there at training.

“Contrary to what it said on the Liversedge website, Nathan Cartman and Damien Hopkins have not signed for them.

“I spoke to both players and they confirmed that they would start pre-season at Town. Players cannot sign a NCE form until the submission date of July 1.

“We have however heard from goalkeeper James Wagett who has opted to leave and states he is going to Liversedge, guaranteed first team football by manager Billy Miller,” said Couzens.

Twelve ex- Park Avenue reserves are also to attend Town’s training and trials.

l TOWN’S U19 manager Simon Wood and his assistant Phil Baker will be running trials for players for a team that has enjoyed two very successful years since formation, winning the Northern Alliance League twice and also the League Cup on once occasion.

Wood said: “Several very good players have already come through the ranks to play in the first team and we are hoping this will continue in the future.”

Players should register interest for the trials no later than Friday, July 8 by contacting Phil Baker on 01484 712009 or 07813 828916 by e-mail, bjpbw@aol.com.

They will then be contacted with information about trial dates and venues.
