Old Brodleians two players from Down Under have arrived this week.
Inside centre Sam Deacon from New Zealand and James Wellington, a second-row forward from Australia, both touched down this week.
Preparations for the 2013-14 season have continued with the level of intensity at training rising and several further players declaring themselves available for the new season.
These include scrum- half Joe Armitage, who did not play regularly last season due to family commitments, and Liam Scott, who was away travelling for most of last season.
David Spivey has now returned to the UK from China and is working hard at training alongside Joe Fee, who has returned to the club after his spell with amateur RL club Whitehall Warriors.
“We will be continuing to build a strong squad to present a much improved challenge for the coming season,” said chairman Richard Turner.
“This weekend will be a busy one at Woodhead. Gareth Taylor and David Rathmell will be making an early start to our ‘Weekend of Action’.
“The pair have been recently elected to the Brods finance committee and aside from that have been organising volunteers and tasks to be completed over the two days.
“Finishing works are to be carried out to the Memorial stand and numerous paint brushes will be in use around the club house to maintain this excellent facility.
“Trees are to be pruned to increase the capacity of the car park as well as much further work around the grounds in a general tidy up. All volunteers will be very welcome.
“Dave Rathmell has also organised a Brods golf day for Friday, September 13, to be held at Lightcliffe Golf Club at a cost of £220.00 for a team of four. This will include refreshments and prizes.
“We have a couple of slots still available. Anyone interested contact Dave on 0777 0955563.”
