Old Brodleians will be looking to continue their promising early-season form with another tough fixture when they entertain Beverley on Saturday (3pm).

After being relegated last season, Beverley arrive at Woodhead one place below their third-placed hosts, but level on points.

Brods’ superior defensive record will surely be tested by a side who like to play an expansive game, something borne out victories over Acklam away (61-15),Keighley away (36-21), Bradford Salem (30-24) and, last weekend, North Ribblesdale (47-7).

Their only loss so far has come at Hullensians when they went down 48-19.

Confidence is high among a buoyant Old Brods, however, and captain Oliver Akroyd said: “This is another important game which will require total commitment from everybody if we’re to challenge for the top four.”

The 2nd team are unbeaten and are clear leaders at the top of their league.

This weekend sees them travel to Bradford and Bingley in equally confident mood.
