THE biggest shock for Rastrick players and supporters on a sun drenched day was skipper Mathew Lambert asking Micklehurst to bat
A long afternoon toiling in the sun ahead of batting into the evening, that was the prospect in this Huddersfield Cedar Court League match.
However, both Ateeq Rehman and Muhammed Saddiq both picked up early wickets and continued to do so apart from Alan Whitehead (50) holding the visitors’ innings together with Danny Clayton (35) and a staggering 35 extras given away.
Laurence Pearson produced a tidy piece of bowling, taking three for 37 in 12 overs while Saddiq claimed five victims for 69 in 18 overs as Micklehurst made 189 all out.
The Rastrick run rate could not have got off to a better start with Lambert (25) and Ateeq Rehman putting on 68 for the first wicket.
Rehman made light work of the visitors’ attack. He brought up his hundred as Rastrick cruised to victory inside 32 overs and was assisted by a quickfire 20 from Saddiq.
This five wicket win was just the tonic after last week’s disappointment and puts the promotion tilt back on track.
l RASTRICK Seconds were away to high fliers Paddock and skipper Dan Thaxter lost the toss and the home side elected to bat.
The runs flowed and openers Nawar (61) and Ahmed (31) gave their side a good start before Mel Booth (55 not out) and Sajid (36 not out) took the score to 233 for the loss of four wickets against a six-man Rastrick attack.
Jack Pearson was the pick of the bowlers taking two for 17 off seven overs.
To say Rastrick’s run chase never got going is an understatement, only one of the top five batsmen managing to score a run.
They were all bowled out for just 51 in 19.4 overs, with Thaxter top scoring with 21.
