Players queue up for charity match

A SPECIAL charity football match in memory of a popular helper at Brighouse Juniors will be held on Sunday.

The game takes place at the Juniors base at Broad Fold, Hove Edge, in memory of Linda Baker.

Money raised will go to CLIC Sargent, a charity dedicated to the care of children with cancer.

It was Linda’s chosen charity. She lost her own personal battle with cancer at the end of January, aged 50.

Linda worked with children all her life and always helped with social activities at Brighouse Juniors.

Her husband Phil, along with children, Lisa, Liam and Kieron would like to see as many people as possible turn up to support them in their efforts.

The match between Phil Baker’s County Cup Winning Side of 2005 will take on Andy Metcalfe’s Brighouse Juniors Select kicks off at 1.30pm.

Phil has spent many years helping at Brighouse Juniors.

The entrance fee of £3includes a programme and along with the match there will be a disco, face painting, a licensed bar and food.

There is also a raffle with prizes s including a weekend break for two, a signed Chelsea shirt and a signed Huddersfield Town shirt and ball plus plenty more prizes donated by local companies.

More than £760 was raised for CLIC Sargent at Linda’s funeral and representative from the charity will be at the game and afterwards will be presented with a cheque.

Many people have come forward wanting to play.

The County Cup winning side will feature the boys who won the West Riding Cup six years ago and for Andy Metcalfe’s side the club’s sponsor Millers Oils of Brighouse, is sending six players.

Managers from the Academy and Reserves at Brighouse Town will also be joining in as Phil works with the academy side on top of 11 years at Brighouse Juniors with Andy and chairman Ian Addy.

After the game has finished the day’s events will carry on across the road at the Dusty Miller, where the raffle will be drawn and the pub will also be putting on some entertainment.
