On a blustery but bright day, Manchester University student Tom Holmes graduated when he won the annual Masters title for the first time at Crow Nest Park on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Crow Nest Masters is a competition in which former winners of a club major compete for the title of Crow Nest Park’s Champion of Champions.
The field this year was the biggest ever with 45 past champions and four invitees competing.
Despite the quality of golfers playing, the overall scoring was low. This was probably reflective of some difficult pin positions, however the quality of the course and greens in paricular was first class.
Holmes, who has recently been working for both Manchester United and Bolton Wanderers as a community coach, took the title by one stroke from the club’s former competition secretary Craig Helliwell. Tom’s winning score was 37 points.
The ladies winner was former Ladies Captain Barbara Horrocks with a score of 34 points.
