Swimmers do their club proud

Brighouse swimmers got themselves in the Christmas spirit when they took part in the Doncaster Dartes Swim-Along-A-Santa Meet in Beverley at the weekend.

Seven swimmers from nine to 13 years took part in various events throughout the day and coach Brian Smart was on hand to support his team.

In the first event of the day 11-year-old Ellis Kaye gave a great performance in the 200m Individual Medley gaining a new personal best time and the Bronze medal.

Young Ben Calligan (10) performed fantastic throughout the day to earn two silver medals and a gold. Team-mates Laura Whittington and Ruby Harris also put on a great display with Laura winning a speeding ticket for going too fast, while Ruby took bronze in the 50m Freestyle before taking gold in the 100m Breaststroke.

Aliya Bacakoglu, 11, gained new PBs which helped to secure her more places in her events for the British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow in April 2016.

The club’s youngest swimmer for the day – nine-year-old Evan Clark – took home bronze and new PBs.

Birthday girl Emma Sykes, who turned 13 on the day of the competition, celebrated her birthday by competing in seven different events. She achieved places within the top five in six of her events including a silver medal, not bad to say she had to move up an age group as it was her birthday.

This Saturday will be The BSC 2015 Christmas Presentation Night at Rastrick Bowling Club. Tickets are available on club reception.
