THE spooky Halloween Meet by South Axholme Sharks was held in Beverley this past weekend.

Seven swimmers from Brighouse Swimming Club made the journey across the M62 with coach Brian Smart leading the team.

Cameron Price (13), Emma Sykes (12), Aliya Bacakoglu (11), Ellis Kaye (11), Laura Whittington (10), Ruby Harris (10) and nine-year-old Megan Walch all competed in various events throughout the day.

The impressive tally achieved by Brighouse at the end of the day comprised nine
trophies, four speeding tickets – prizes for excelling over a distance at speed but not necessarily winning the race – a heat winner certificate and two spot prizes between them. It is safe to say Brighouse were not scared off by their spooky opponents.

After diving in on the 50m breaststroke, Megan Walch lost her goggles but carried on regardless.

If she was to touch her goggles it would have been a straight disqualification but Megan continued and completed her event. For that courage alone, she deservedly won the spot prize in her heat.

The next competition for Brighouse SC members is the Spenborough 125th anniversary meet at The John Charles Centre in Middleton, South Leeds, on November 15.
