Lightcliffe’s 2nd XI did not do their hopes of avoiding relegation from Division One much good with a dour batting performance in the rain-hit game at Morley.
They were all out for 93 after a reasonable start had been provided by veteran openers James Horne (18) and Michael Brooke (15) but it was all downhill from there.
Their batsmen did hold out for 46.2 overs against the accurate attack of Richard Winn (5-25) and Graeme Roberts (3-21) and this occupation of the crease proved valuable.
In some ways it prevented them being left pointless from the game as they did come away with four valuable points from the washed out encounter after Morley had only been able to reach 72 for the loss of two wickets in reply when the heavy rains came.
Lightcliffe Under-9s, the club’s only unbeaten team of 2015, saw off a strong challenge from Pudsey Congs on Monday night to reach their first Cup final.
It was a match of high quality in all departments, with Lightcliffe, on balance, deservedly the winners, finishing on 246-4 to Congs’ 243-4.
Lightcliffe’s bowling was strong all round.
There wickets were shared by Joe Pyrah, Tom Priestley and Ben Horne.
Lightcliffe will play Pudsey St Lawrence “A” in the Final on Monday at Undercliffe CC (10am).
