Huddersfield crowned ladies county champs

Huddersfield Golf Club Ladies team have been crowned the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association scratch team champions.

The competition is contested between 20 clubs from across the White Rose county.

The Huddersfield team won the event at the scratch team finals at Brough in East Yorkshire last week.

The team, pictured right, are from left to right Sandra Paul, Georgia Holden, Hannah Holden, Harriet Richardson, Jean Gee (Lady Captain) Megan Lockett, Megan Clarke and Pat Wrightson.

It is a great achievement for the club and for the region as a whole to have the county’s champions in our midst.

Elsewhere,over 100 members of Huddersfield Golf Club played in mixed Greensome on Bank Holiday Monday for the prestigious Fixby Masters trophy.

Despite some very heavy rain for the morning players there was some excellent scoring.

The trophy was won by husband and wife pairing David and Claire Ineson keeping up what is becoming something of a family tradition.

Both David’s wife and son James have won the trophy previously so David was delighted to get his hands on the trophy for the first time.

Nick Ledgard, captain of the Huddersfield club, thanked all the players for taking part and made mention of the Ladies scratch team success the previous week, retaining the inter club YLCGA trophy.

Before the main prize was presented he announced the winners of the twos competition and gave balls to Stephen and Susan Lum and Stephen and Maria Tempest.

Franz and Anita Mandl also had a two.

David and Claire Ineson were then presented with their trophy which they won with a score of 69.

In second place, following a count back, were David Jagger and Heather Benson.

In third place, also on count back, Rex and Linda Beaumont with club captain Ledgard and ladies captain Mrs Jean Gee being in fourth place. Members enjoyed a three course meal before the presentation comprising pate or prawn bisque, followed by roast leg of Texel lamb or poached fillet of hake and then chocolate brownie.
