Galas produce best times

Youngsters from Brighouse Swimming Club competed in two different external galas at the weekend.

Nine swimmers travelled to The John Charles Centre in Leeds for the two day The City of Leeds Grand Prix Meet.

Four of the swimmers, Lucy Smith (13), Ciara Duffin (12), Luke Smith (9) and Ciaran Raistrick (9) all competed at an external gala for the first time and all four gained new personal best times.

Amy Donovan (15), Cameron Price (11), Declan Raistrick (11), Edward Vickers (10) and Ellis Kaye (9) also gained new PB times with Edward and Ellis taking the fifth place medals in the boys 11 years 50m breaststroke and the girls 9 years 50m backstroke.

Five swimmers attended the Kirklees and District Gala 1, held at Spenborough Pool.

Lucy Smith (13), Ciara Duffin (12), Emma Sykes (11), Ellis Kaye (9) and Luke Smith (9) competed in eight events.

All swimmers were placed in their events, with Lucy Smith taking the bronze medal in the girls 13 years 100m butterfly.

Luke Smith gave a fantastic swim to take the silver medal in the boys 9 years two lengths breaststroke and Emma Sykes made it to the finals of the girls 11 years 100m freestyle where she came sixth and received a finalist’s pennant.

Brian Smart, coach at Brighouse Swimming Pool, supported his swimmers at both galas this weekend.

He said:“ All our swimmers have all competed very well this weekend.

“The club are very proud of what they have achieved and they have done themselves, their families and the club proud.

“Well done to all of you.”
