Crow Nest Golf Club life member John Turner has been nominated president elect of Halifax & Huddersfield Union of Golf Clubs 2016.

Turner, 65, a former Halifax Building Society executive, club captain of Crow Nest in 2000 and then president for nine years, will then see his nomination by the 23 club membership of the Union at their AGM on March 8 for the presidency in 2017.

Louie Walsh’s season continues to go from strength to strength with an outstanding display in the final at the Alcaidesa Links resort in Spain.

Eleven-year-old Louie from Crow Nest Park had qualified for the final earlier in the year at Low Laithes Golf Club and joined the field of 100 competitors in the final.

His best round from the two played on the resort’s heathland and links courses counted towards his final score.

Louie posted a gross 92 on the Heathland layout and a 93 on the tougher Links course to claim the best nett prize and the silverware to go with it.

Crow Nest Park’s juniors are again prospering under the guidance of junior organiser Luke Higgins.

The club’s junior captain James Edwards and Harry Mowl have both represented the club by playing in Union events against other inter-district teams in the past season and Louie Walsh and Dylan Shaw-Radford have both been selected by the Union for the district’s coaching programme.

Club captain Mike Greenbury said: “I’m delighted that the club’s commitment to junior golf was successful and has been recognised and that the junior golfers were a credit to the club.”
