It’s an ill wind that blows no one any good but Outlane’s offer to host a rearranged Halifax-Huddersfield Union Handicap Team competition paid rich dividends yesterday.

The event was due to be held at Saddleworth on Sunday, June 12 but postponed due to bad weather.

When a suitable new date to host the contest at the outpost course could not be found, Outlane offered to step in and their four-man team duly made the most of home advantage and lifted the Jack Sykes Trophy.

Matthew Beaumont’s round of 78, playing off nine, was the best of the day and helped his team to a 350 total for a seven shot win over Crosland Heath.

Lightcliffe and Bradley Hall took third and fourth places.

Teams comprise four players in different handicap bands between 8 and 14.
