We’ll bounce back for big local derby clash
BRIGHOUSE Town manager Paul Quinn is looking forward to entertaining local rivals Liversedge on Saturday (3pm) in his first Baris NCEL Premier Division derby game since taking over from Mick Couzens at the end of August.
Quinn is no stranger to the visitors as he had a five-month spell as a player for them back in 2007 and is hoping the tie will see a bumper crowd down at the Dual Seal Stadium.
“Preparation will be no different as we will treat each game the same, but it would be nice to have the bragging rights in this area,” he said.
“Only three points are available so we will approach this game in the same way.
“Last week was disappointing at Armthorpe but we will bounce back.
“Sure, the players came off the field a little deflated, a draw would probably have been a fair result,” he said.
“Fortunately we have a group of players who want to win.
“The Doncaster outfit were a tough side and I don’t think many teams will go there this season and come away with all three points.
“It was only our second game with a settled squad and to be honest I think we are still a couple of players short and a have few fitness problems, but our ideas are getting across and we are constantly taking steps forward, not backwards,” said Quinn.
“We have managed to retain everyone for this week and we are looking at the possibility of adding another one to the squad before Saturday, but we will have to see.
“There is good competition for places in the squad at the moment and everyone feels the same about staying up at the right end of the table.
“I am very confident we will bounce back,” he said.
Town dropped to seventh place with the 1-0 setback after only two weeks earlier heading affairs in a division which encompasses teams from North, East and West Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
With their early deaprtures from the preliminary rounds of the FA Cup and FA Vase they have also been able to keep on track with their fixture list and as a result have played in some cases three more games than some of the club surrounding them.
As Quinn points out its early days and the best is yet to be seen of his ever-improving squad of players.
