Town in search of league double
BRIGHOUSE Town go in search of a Baris NCEL Premier Division double on Saturday when Worksop Parramore are the visitors (3.00).
The Nottinghamshire outfit topped the table when Town went there earlier in the season and won comfortably.
Since then Parramore have endured an erratic period which has seen them drop to fourth.
They have played 23 games against Town’s 21, winning 13, drawing four and losing six compared to player-boss Paul Quinn’s side who have played two games less, won 14, drawn four and lost three.
Worksop’s defence appears to be their Achilles heel for they have shipped in 41 goals to Town’s 24, but have scored 62 goals to Town’s 50.
Quinn knows it is going to be a tough encounter and to safeguard the pitch yesterday afternoon’s AFC Halifax Town v Boston United football academy game was called off.
Frost is forecast and chairman Ray McLaughlin was looking for some cover, such is the intent at the club to avoid a build up of fixtures.
Quinn has just one injury doubt in Craig Thompson following last Saturday’s emphatic 4-0 win at Liversedge and is pleased to have forward or midfield dynamo Leon Henry back in the squad following the sad passing of his mother.
Tom Matthews, the NCEL Premier Division’s leading marksman with 27 goals, is back in the fold after having last weekend off to recharge his batteries and the timing could not be more welcome with news of Thompson’s injury.
Talking of injuries, Town’s long serving secretary Malcolm Taylor had to call an ambulance for his wife Margaret on Tuesday when she fell on the steps outside their home while going out to post a letter.
Margaret, who puts on the buffet and serves the committee room at the Dual Seal Stadium, broke her wrist trying to save her fall, and on Wednesday morning also underwent four hours surgery to repair a broken hip.
“Unfortunately she will now be ruled out for the season and we will have to find someone else to do the job,” said Malcolm, who has not been without his own health problems but soldiers on after nine years’ service to Town and local football since 1970.
McLaughlin added: “They are a couple of gems and an integral part of this club, and we wish Margaret all the very best in her recuperation,”
