The big voice of sport

Obviously the biggest soccer stories of the past few days have been the sacking of Nigel Adkins at Southampton, Bradford City getting to Wembley and Huddersfield Town continuing to frustrate their fans.

Former Scunthorpe manager Adkins had done ever so well at St Mary’s and is one helluvah nice bloke.

Two promotions and he had got his side playing well in the Premier League and picking up points.

These hiring and firing clubs, mostly owned by foreign investment, do my head in.

Another quiet one this past weekend was the sacking of ex-Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman at Rochdale.

They were not having a good season, but once former manager Keith Hill became available after his sacking at Barnsley you could say Coleman was living on borrowed time.

Adkins could have his pick of jobs, and with his pay off he will not be in a hurry to choose, although O’Driscoll soon took the Bristol City job despite his pay-offs at Doncaster Rovers and Forest all in the space of some 12 months.

Bradford City’s goal hero James Hanson was playing for Eccleshill United in the same Baris NCEL League as Brighouse Town three seasons ago and working at his local Co-op. Now at 25 he will be in demand and also has a trip to Wembley on February 24.

The Bantams certainly have fans coming out of the woodwork;. my wife’s cousin Philip Robinson was last spotted on Tuesday night doing somersaults around Laverock Place in Hove Edge.

All I want to see are strong Yorkshire clubs and this is one positive step.
