New Moon dawns at Juniors

BRIGHOUSE Juniors under-nine coach Richard Moon is enjoying his first season coaching at the club – but it's actually second time round at the club in a connection which now spans over two decades.

Richard is one of four coaches at the age group and, having gained his FA coaching level one at a course run at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School – also the team's training base each Wednesday evening – he is enjoying this second spell at the club.

First time round was in the 1990s when his son Daniel, now 26, from his first marriage began playing for the Juniors. History is now repeating itself as Richard takes his young son Harry, who is eight, to play at the club as well as his role in coaching. Wife Helen is also part of the Juniors set up after taking on the role of child protection officer.

Richard, of Bracken Road, Brighouse, a contract mechanical piping engineer, is enjoying his second coming at the club.

"It's a really ambitious club, has a very good management team and is really pushing to be the best at what we do," said Richard.

On his team and their performances so far this season, Richard added: "We have had a lot of new players this season and have lost some of our key players to the A team and we are still gelling.

"It has been a very difficult season with the weather and having to fit cancelled games in when we can which often means we are playing Saturdays and Sundays.

"The lads are built up for their next games so it is very disappointing when you have to cancel a game and also it is a lot of hard work to get everything re-organised again."
