BRIGHOUSE showed great physical and mental strength to overcome a very strong and hardworking Hemsworth team.
They also did well to keep their heads after many baffling decisions from the referee went against them.
Hemsworth started strongly against a Brighouse side playing their first league game since November.
Keeper Amy Monday made a smart save and Chloe Abbott cleared off the line in the first five minutes as Hemsworth dominated the early encounters.
Vanessa Holroyd then limped off with a thigh strain, and was replaced by Chelsea Jessop. This coincided with Brighouse getting a foothold in the game and Jessop twice went close, first just sliding her shot wide, then hitting the post after some great approach play.
Brighouse did not have to wait much longer and after 30 minutes, following a dazzling run, Emily Holroyd was upended in the box and Leanne Smith slotted home the spot kick.
Hemsworth came back strongly and equalised after Brighouse failed to clear and the striker fired in from close range.
A piece of magic in a blood and thunder match gave Brighouse the half time lead, Lauren Doyle picked up Smith’s pass 25 yards out and coolly chipped the keeper for a fantastic goal.
Brighouse then had two further claims for penalties, firstly Jessop was upended inside the box, then Sarah Hemingway was taken out by the keeper, but on both occasions the referee waved play on.
Hemsworth equalised against the run of play in the second half, when once again Brighouse failed to get the ball cleared and the ball was cracked home from close range.
But, just seven minutes later, Brighouse regained their lead when good work from Webster and Hemingway set up Smith whose shot was well saved by the keeper, but Doyle was on hand to tap home.
A minute later Brighouse made the game safe with a superb team move from the edge of their own area. Abbott knocked the dall to Sheridan Drake who passed to Charlotte Reid who in turn found Alex Sweeney.
Her pass then found Smith in a bit of space and she played an inch perfect pass to Jessop who finished well.
