BRIGHOUSE Rangers travel on Saturday to local rivals Wyke in the first of two games in two weeks against each other.

“In everyone’s eyes this is the important one,” said assistant coach Craig Young.

“Although it’s good to have a cup run, getting promoted is our key objective this season.

“In this rearranged Pennine ARL Division Two game we go to Wyke Park (2.30pm) with a near fully fit squad to choose from, and we know it won’t be easy as these games are quite often physical.”

Rangers old boy and current Wyke coach Nigel Briggs will be looking forward to this game, and will have his team fit and ready.

“League positions don’t count for much in this game, and it’s who turns up on the day who will win the bragging rights,” said Young.

Rangers’ second string welcome Leeds side Burley to Russell Way (2.30pm).

Club spokesman DaveBarnes said: “In past contests Burley have proved to be a well organised and physical side.

“Rangers have started to improve again, and it’s great to see numbers returning.

Coach Phil Barsby added: “If players perform like they did against Wyke a week last Saturday then it should be a good game.

“All we want is for the lads to turn up and enjoy themselves.”

The semi finals of the Halifax League Cup were drawn on Monday, with Rangers avoiding Pennine League Championship sides Halifax Irish and Keighley. They have been handed a home draw against Illingworth.

“Although doing the double over Illingworth in the league this season, a cup semi-final is different.

“Everybody should be revved up for this one to be played on February, 25,” said Barnes.

Rangers second string were handed a tough draw away against current Pennine League Division Four leaders Stainland.

“If we can turn out our strongest side, this will be an opportunity to cause an upset and reach the final,” said Barsby.

The tie will also be on Saturday, February 25.
