Dan revels in forward role
AVOCET Brighouse SFL leaders Eastfield came through one of their toughest tests yet at Lane Head last Sunday, as they defeated a recently on song Martins Nest in a tight encounter.
The match was close throughout with the score locked at three apiece at the break, but the league leaders enjoyed a purple patch in front of goal in the second period that ultimately won them maximum points.
Goals from Joe Shaw, Ryan Collins, Danny Hodgkinson, Michael Drennan and a Wayne Collins spot kick proved enough to keep 'Field at the pinnacle of the league standings, but Nest caused plenty of problems at the other end.
Dan Reddy – noted primarily as a midfielder – did a sterling job up front in netting twice for the home side, Jason Armstrong struck a free kick home and Jake Driver scored a magnificent solo effort to make sure Eastfield had to work hard for three points.
Nest had chances to take something from the match but the visitor's last line of defence in keeper Chris Lawton was inspired and looks to be a great addition to the squad following a recent transfer from Top Club.

The front man restored parity with a header in off the post to tie things at the break and then went on to win the match in the second period.
Spitfire played some nice football themselves, with the trickery of Thomas Mellor always a threat, but the visitors hung on for the points.
Two of the division’s strugglers, Triangle and Rastrick C & AC,played out a goal-fest at Milner Royd.
The writing was on the wall for an interesting encounter when Scott Mollett gave Rastrick the lead off his backside from a goalkeeping clearance – and that was the start of a 15 goal encounter.
Mollett went on to net four for the visitors, but the home side made hay at the other end as they recorded double figures. Ben Brown also netted four in the match, with Brett Charlesworth, Dan Carter (2), James Thompson (2), Richard Riley and James Kay giving Triangle their biggest win for some years.
The Brighouse SFL had two sides left in the Halifax District Cup and Sun Inn picked up a great victory against Mount Tabor to progress to the quarter finals.
Damian McCallum was the star of the show as he grabbed a brace in a 2-0 victory at Savile Park.
The same venue saw Pack Horse well beaten by top Halifax Premier League side FC Bowling Green. The side currently third in the Halifax top-flight proved too strong and went through with a 7-0 victory.
