BRIGHOUSE Old Boys manager Phil Garbe would like to concentrate on the promotion run his form side were on until the big freeze set in, but for this week he has to get back into cup football mode with a West Yorkshire League Cup tie.
“To be honest if you asked me I would be greedy and say I’d take both as all the players want is to take part in a quality match.
“And if silverware is at the end of the line they will also take it along with points from a league match,” said Garbe.
“We have players at the Old Boys with a good quality edge to them and their play.
“At training on Tuesday night they said they were really up for this third round cup tie at Stanley (2pm).
“Like I said when we should have been going to Wakefield two weeks ago they are a good side that currently sits fourth in Division Two and are playing well.
“We will have to give them total respect and, in all fairness with the break, both sides will no doubt be a little ring rusty and we don’t want to be conceding early doors.
“As planned for the original date Martin Newham will drop down to the reserves as he qualifies to play in their cup tie and we will take Adam Williams with us who qualifies through games played to take a shirt in our tie.
“Apart from that switch of personnel I have a full squad to select from,” said Garbe.
Chris Wadsworth’s reserves will attempt to get their third round Alliance League cup tie with Otley Reserves played at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School (2pm).
Otley’s second string are in fourth place in their Division Two and are classed as a good side eager for promotion.
The club’s Halifax League Division One side have a tough home game with unbeaten league leaders Midgley United (2.30pm) at Hipperholme and Lighcliffe High School.
Player-manager Rob Moore is likely to be strengthened by the return for recognised first team utility player Andy Burton, just back from a five month tour of India, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand with his girlfriend - and now fiancee his team mates have been informed.
“He needs some game time and to get back to match fitness and doesn’t qualify for either cup side, so Rob can have the benefit of his experience and talent,” said Garbe.
