Brods eager to regain the momentum

OLD Brodleians travel to Abbeydale Park, Sheffield, on Saturday (2.15pm) in search of safety points in North East 1.
This comes ahead of next week’s rearrnaged home game with Malton and Norton and then on March 3 a home derby with Cleckheaton.
Coach Ian Armitage knows it is a stiff three weeks ahead but he told the players at training this week they are capable of winning all three on their day.
Sheffield, promoted last season, are currently fourth and have lost six games, while Brods are in ninth spot.
They are led around the park by veteran prop John Dudley who has played National League with Rotherham Titans and with John Bentley, when he was coach at Cleckheaton, and he has also played professional RL for Sheffield Eagles.
“He is really good at this level although he is getting on in years and we should also watch out for their Irish fly-half Donal Collins who is a first class goalkicker and kicker for position, “ said player-spokesman Adam Standeven, who is under the weather this week and may have to miss out on selection.
“Our discipline needs to be spot on or he will punish us.
“We haven’t played now for three weeks and are bound, like them to be fair, to lack in match fitness but we are pleased to have prop Dave Skinner back and hopefully Lee Scrimshaw plus utility back Richard Holborough after his travels across the world.
“I feel Joe Armitage will get the call for scrum-half after recovering from his shoulder injury in early December, but we won’t have our veteran prop Jamie McLaughlin, who is still awaiting a scan on his injured knee, done in the game with Old Crocs on December 17.
“He needs to know if it’s a cartilage or a cruciate ligament problem and it must be as frustrating for him as it is for the coach.
“The freeze up didn’t do anyone any favours and particularly us, as we wanted to pick up on the momentum gained in the big win at Newcastle over Team Northumbria,” he said.
“We have eight games left and we want to win at least 50 per cent of them and more if possible.”
The club’s second XV and the Beavers take a coach to play Wharfdale’s second string and veterans.
“The second team come up against what is normally a good side as there are players, who have missed out on selection for the National League side and are fighting to show they want a shirt for that team,” he said.
