Brighouse 'making positive strides'

BRIGHOUSE skipper Paul Cummins is noticing a real fighting spirit amongst the team and remains positive progress is being made despite last Saturday's six wicket defeat away to Morley.

Brighouse batted first and posted 103 from 46.3 overs, with Amjid Tariq top scoring with 32. Brighouse had slumped to 55 for six at one stage but Matt Senior and some of the tail end managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over and taking the score past the 100 mark.

It took Morley 34.2 overs to obtain the winning run and as Cummins points out, if only they could put more runs on the board they would have a chance of pulling off their first victory.

Former Brighouse player Phil Carter held the Morley innings together with 41 and the rest of the six batsmen used did not make any significant scores at all, reinforcing what Cummins was saying about runs on the board and we have something to bowl at.

Six bowlers were used and Cummins had Morley in a tizz as he bowled 15 overs and took two for 21 with five of them being maidens.

l TEN man Brighouse Seconds put up a good fight against Manningham Mills' second team in a Division Two reserve team game at Russell Way despite the eight wicket winning tag for the visitors.

Batting first Brighouse scored 161 all out in 47.5 overs with skipper Jason Horsley top scoring with 34. James Curtis hit 32 and there were other notable scores from David Boulton (27) and Moey Hussain (19).

Mills' bowler Syed Hashmi undid the Brighouse resistance with five for 31.

It took the visitors 34.3 overs to sail past the required total, aided by openers Zaffran Ghaffer with 55 and and Mohammed Faisal with 57.
