Big Voice of Sport

JUST take a look at Leeds United’s stats in the Championship.

After Tuesday night’s 1-0 setback at Turf Moor to a Charlie Austin goal they have played 15, won five, drawn five and lost five and scored 22 goals while also shipping in 22. How mid-table can you get with those figures?

While the takeover drags on the fans angst gathers momentum again with the poor results on the field. The way things are going and Neil Warnock’s side is going to struggle to make up ground to get into a comfortable position in the play-off zone.

Huddersfield Town after two blips at Peterborough and Millwall are now back holding their own and picking up points again in their first season back in the Championship.

A good result for them Tuesday night, albeit late with a 95th minute leveller from Lee Novak against former Premiership side Blackburn Rovers.

Still in the Championship, and what a start for Crystal Palace’s manager, Ian Holloway, over another new incumbent, Mick McCarthy at Ipswich.

A clear five goal margin for Holloway who has moved south not only for a change after doing it all with Blackpool but to be near his three working daughters who are all profoundly deaf.

Last Saturday a near neighbour of mine in Rastrick, Richard Marshall, scored a 58th minute goal for Bradford Park Avenue in the FA Cup first round proper at Doncaster.

Richard almost had another and he is a fair old player who would have loved to make it to the full time professional level.

He and his partner Siobhan are expecting a happy event in the new year and I wish them all the very best.

Park Avenue have a good chance of getting into the play-off places in Blue Square North and staying there if they match their performance that they put on against the League One side.

Their 450 strong following including once again, Rastrick’s Peter Hearn thoroughly enjoyed their day out in south Yorkshire.

Good to see FC Halifax Town back among the goals on Tuesday night with a 4-0 win over Vauxhall Motors whose team coach I saw on the M62 last week. Obviously sponsored at their Ellesmere Port base by Vauxhall, they had a superb coach for transporting the team about in Blue Square North and wherever else they are called to play.
