Brighouse Town complete their pre-season programme on Friday evening away to Evo-Stik Division One club Harrogate Railway after AFC Emley pulled the plug on the original fixture.

The Huddersfield district club are playing Huddersfield Town on Thursday night and they didn’t want to play two games within 24 hours, so Railway have stepped in and will be Town’s last match before they entertain Bradford-based side Albion Sports on Saturday week, August 10 (3.00).

Town’s player-manager Paul Quinn spoke of his team’s performance on Tuesday evening against Greater Manchester club Curzon Ashton: “I was expecting a physical game, they are a very physical side.

“The friendlies have been a great test.

“We have come up against different teams in every friendly and that was a great result against a team two steps up.

“The lads said at half time in their own words that they weren’t happy with their first half performance but I thought it was a great test and I am pleased for the lads.

“ One issue I do have though is that we aren’t being clinical enough and we need to work on that.

“We haven’t picked up any injuries and some of the lads are due back soon, Nick Jaggar (groin) is almost there and Tom Brown (knee) and Adam Wilson (knee) are progressing well, so I am going to have some tough decisions over the next couple of weeks.”

“Goalkeeper Tom Taylor is the only player moving to pastures new but we have also gained goalkeeper Adam Lawler, Ben Small, Ben Lamb, Joe Thornton, Wayne Shooter and Adam Field.

Town lost their home friendly last Thursday evening 3-1 with The Skrill North side Guiseley, Tom Matthews being Town’s scorer.

Guiseley manager Steve Kittrick turned out a strong side and for two successive seasons they have been in the play-offs looking for a place in the Conference Premier.

Brighouse Town Ladies played last Sunday against Blackpool and ended the game with a 3-0 victory, with their goals scored by Jordane Allison, Sonni Sweeney and Amy Hesseldon.

Their next friendly before a September 1 league start is against Huddersfield Town Ladies away at Storthes Hall this Sunday.
