Well done to Huddersfield Town!
I am delighted that Town survived last Saturday’s final day of drama in the Championship and boy does it throw up some great derbies next season.
Town get around £6m from the share out instead of around £750,000 in League One. Not only that but Town could be in for the added bonuses of live television.
The ground should be full for games against Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough, and still the possibility of either Sunderland or Newcastle United.
Over the `hill’ and we have Burnley, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn and Blackpool, while just down the M1 Derby County and Nottingham Forest and down the M6 Birmingham City. Not to mention Leicester City should they slip up in the play-offs.
That is 13 clubs that won’t need expensive overnighters for Town and fellow Yorkshire clubs -managers please note.
Once the Championship play-off final is completed, all fans will then be awaiting the next big day, Tuesday, June 18 for the fixtures coming out.
Good luck to FC Halifax Town on Saturday at Brackley in the Blue Square North final.
The venue should be a neutral one for such an important match, with the winners joining Chester in the Conference Premier next season.
Brackley is in Northamptonshire and Gloucester City play out of Cheltenham’s ground in south east Gloucestershire. Conference North clubs? There’s something wrong there!
