Brighouse Sports Ladies made it four from four in the league with a dominant performance over a hard working physical Pontefract side.
From the kick off Brighouse controlled possession and created a couple of half chances before skipper Leanne Smith threaded an inch perfect ball inside the full back for Vanessa Holroyd to run onto and calmly slot left footed past the keeper.
Brighouse continued to dominate the game and Sarah Hemingway shot straight at the keeper, Smith blazed over the bar, and some great interplay down the right, between Paige Green, Lauren Doyle and Emily Holroyd saw the latter’s cross just evade everyone.
At the other end Pontefract were having no joy at all, the nearest they came was from an inswinging corner which was dealt with at the second attempt by keeper Linzi Scarfe.
The second half continued in the same way with Brighouse in total control of possession, and creating half chances, but never decisive enough in the final third.
With only being one up there was always the chance that Pontefract could sneak an equaliser, but the back four of Leanne Webster, Paige Green, Sheridan Drake and Charlotte Reid were in total control of the game.
The only suprise was it took until the 80th minute for Brighouse to score the second and make the game safe.
Charlotte Reid’s corner was touched on by Vanessa Holroyd and Emily Holroyd was on hand to stab the ball home and secure the points with the 2-0 win.
So, Brighouse go into next week’s County Cup quarter-finals away to Ossett in good heart and will see themselves as favourites to progress into the semi-finals.
