Ryburn set target for Shelf FC

Ryburn United completed what they hope will be a title-winning Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL campaign with a 3-2 win at Greetland last night.

Craig Walker’s side hit the 50-point mark at Goldfields and ended second-placed Sowerby Bridge’s wafer-thin hopes of beating them to the silverware.

However, Ryburn’s bid to repeat their 2013-14 title success looks to be getting reduced support from elsewhere as the season heads towards overtime.

Midgley United, heavily beaten in their two latest outings, were unable to raise a team to face a Shelf FC side who can still overhaul Ryburn.

Shelf are not only likely to be awarded three points for last night’s unplayed fixture but they also got a chance to put their feet up amid a punishing end-of-season schedule.

Shelf FC, currently 16 points behind Ryburn from six games fewer, still have to play Sowerby Bridge and Greetland twice and fourth-placed Shelf United by May 11.

Sowerby Bridge were also due to play last night but bottom side Illingworth St Mary’s were unable to raise a side for their penultimate game and the Saints are now sure to occupy the one relegation berth.
