RASTRICK cruised into the second round of the Huddersfield League Sykes Cup competition with a six-wicket win against Lepton Highlanders.
The visitors won the toss in this tie sponsored by New Road Connection and chose to bat first with a strong, easterly wind blowing up the M62 corridor.
New signing Mohammed Saddiq ripped into the opposition, taking two wickets in his first over. While at the other end Ateeq Rehman was his usual miserly self. Saddiq continued to take victims at an alarming rate, twice taking two in successive balls.
Only opener Winterbottom displayed any real resistance, eventually being last man out for a solid 26.
Saddiq finished with superb figures of eight for 28 in nine overs as the visitors were dismissed for 50.
The home batsmen were not entirely at ease in their run chase and lost four wickets in the process, the match being completed shortly before three-o’clock! Captain Matthew Lambert was very pleased with his side’s performance, being quick to praise the fielders who took some sharp catches to Saddiq’s fine figures.
Tougher games lie ahead as the side return to league action for two consecutive home games, firstly this Saturday against Linthwaite and then Kirkheaton the week after.
